We built the receptionist that small Australian businesses could never afford
Zigzaag started with a plumber, a missed call log, and a number nobody wanted to look at. Every business we spoke to was losing work not because their service was poor, but because nobody could pick up the phone.
Why we exist
A two-van trade business in Melbourne misses roughly a third of its inbound calls. A clinic with one person on reception sends new patient enquiries to voicemail every time someone is standing at the desk. An agency answering DMs for ten clients cannot be awake at 11pm on a Sunday. In all three cases the work does not disappear — it goes to whoever answered first.
Answering services are expensive and generic. Chatbots frustrate people and cannot make a booking. Automation platforms need a developer. Zigzaag exists to close that gap: an AI front desk that sounds like your business, knows your prices, sees your calendar and can actually complete the job.
What we believe about automation
- Automation should complete work, not just deflect it. An AI that answers a question but cannot book the appointment has moved the problem, not solved it.
- A human must always be one tap away. Every conversation has a takeover switch, and the agent tells people when it cannot help.
- Grounded beats clever. Agents answer from your documents, your prices and your calendar — and say 'I don't know' rather than inventing something.
- Disclosure builds trust. We default to telling callers they are speaking with an AI assistant, and Australian customers respond well when it is genuinely useful.
- Your data is yours. It is never used to train third-party foundation models, and you can export or delete it at any time.
Who we are
Zigzaag is a small, independent product company based in Melbourne, Victoria. The team comes from telephony, conversational AI and small-business software — people who have sat in a workshop watching a phone ring out, and people who have run the infrastructure behind millions of calls.
We are deliberately not a large organisation. It means the person who answers your onboarding email is usually the person who built the feature you are asking about.
Built for the Australian market
- Australian local, mobile and 1300 numbers, with porting support.
- Pricing in AUD, GST handled correctly on your tax invoice.
- Data stored in Australian infrastructure with per-tenant isolation.
- Business-hours logic that understands state public holidays and time zones from AWST to AEDT.
- Agents tuned for Australian phrasing, suburbs, and the way people actually describe a job.
Working with us
Plans are month to month. There is no lock-in contract, no implementation fee, and a free plan that does not expire so you can test the platform with real customers before spending anything.
If Zigzaag is not the right fit for your business, we would rather tell you on the first call than sell you a seat you will cancel in six weeks.
